For 25 years, the Shashamane Foundation has been contributing educational support and opportunity for the children of Shashamane, Ethiopia. Rooted in the enduring spirit of love and Pan-Africanism obligation—past and present—we have been privileged to serve over 450 children every school day, assisting in providing the education and support they need to thrive to serve themselves, their families community and nation. With your continued support, we can expand our reach, deepen our impact, and empower every child to realize their full potential, starting with a strong foundation in education.
Our ultimate goal is to assist this institution to reach the dignified goal of sustainability. By sustainability we mean providing the tools for this the project to maintain its impact and operation over a long term, even after initial funding from donors.
School Operations
The annual operational cost of this school of 450 children with 29 members of staff is estimated at $50,000 USD. The project which is registered as a local NGO Charity receives no Government funding. The project from its inception to date has relied first and foremost on the grace of the Most High God, working through families and grass-roots individuals of goodwill, who contribute through The Shashamane Foundation. Another source of funding comes from the ‘shared cost’ contributions of the parents of students. Our constant prayer is that those who see our 25 years track record of accountability, transparency and reliability will join is assisting the school to reach its dignified goal of sustainability.
Security Fence Campaign
The walled fence is being constructed with 8 shops on the outside of 32 meters of its 135 meter perimeter wall. These shops when completed will be utilized by the school to generate income to enhance the sustainability goal of the JRDC School. We have thus far raised and spent $9652 on this phase of our sustainability/ security project and are approximately 50% completed. We need your assistance in completing rendering the wall and shops, electrical fittings, putting in ceilings, 8 metal shutters, a sanitary facility and another 68 meter of concrete fencing.
This we will tackle in 2 phases; the first being the rendering, and completion of the 8 shops to become operational. This is estimated to be approximately $7000 -$8000 USD. This means between $940 -$1000 to complete each shop. Hopefully with the shops up and running, generating income, we will be able to complete the final phase.
